Agree with it all except for “If Nobody is elected it will be better for everyone” - voter turnout’s been going down for ages, and every time it gets a couple of weeks of “ohh, shame” and then forgotten.
And while this piece is satire, it isn’t irony. Dictionary.com, irony =
1. the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of their literal meaning
5. an outcome of events contrary to what was, or might have been, expected.
6. the incongruity of this.

by not voting you are giving up your right of freedom. by not voting you’re actually telling the nation that you don’t care. if you don’t vote then you’ll be sure to get a president that isn’t even half way decent or suitable. if you don’t vote, don’t complain. you could have changed that with a vote. and your argument may be, that “one single vote can’t change anything” but if everyone had that mentality nobody would be where they are today. vote. make a difference. care.

The teacher asked his pupil, “There are two great enemies to democracy, my child. They are ignorance and apathy. Do you know which is worse?”
The student looked distractedly at his instructor and answered, “I don’t know and I don’t care.”
It is a sad state of affairs when we know that anyone who would want to hold political office is not doing so out of a concern for others but out of a desire for power or personal advancement. We know that the people vying for these positions are motivated by greed more than anything. We accept it and go on. Why? Why not do something about it? But what can we do? They have the money, the power, the connections and ultimately, we are powerless, disconnected and feel that whatever money we could donate to a candidate would just be wasted.
I humbly offer the following suggestion: find other like-minded people and start having small gatherings. You only need 3 to start. Talk about what you think would make a better government and write these ideas down somewhere. Before you have your next gathering, make sure you invite one person to join the conversation. They aren’t joining a group or becoming part of anything. They’re just joining a conversation. After they’ve been to a gathering or two, ask them to invite someone. Keep that going for a while. It might take a few months or a year but eventually you’ll have enough people that someone in the group can suggest that one of you run for some local or state office. That person would have the support of the people in the group and might have a chance at getting elected. In all honesty, it doesn’t even matter if that person is particularly competent so long as they are dedicated to forwarding the goals of government that your group espouses. You don’t need to declare a political party (unless you want to). But that’s what you will have become.
Unfortunately this takes a great deal of work on the part of a small number of people and some real work on the part of the schmuck you find to run for the office.
On second though, nevermind. Forget I said anything. The only real practical suggestion I can offer is that when you have the opportunity, vote. If you can’t think of any reason to vote for someone, see how many reasons you can find to vote against them and see if your distrust and dislike of the other candidate is equal or greater. Vote against someone if you have to.

after what george bush has put us through ….when you vote youre only picking a different “bush”.
If there was a man who was fit for the job and he were elected today; he would then be assassinated tomorrow, and, then buried the next day! Then someone who is bad would take his place and all would go back to politics as usual! And things would continue to get worse as they have been for the last several decades!
The United States of America will never have another president the likes of its best and brightest, such as the noble and gentle Abraham Lincoln, again in that high seat of power! Never again!
That’s a prediction! Mark my words well! Never again will such a one be elected! So what do I see becoming of the USA? I see the words of this poem representing its future:
I met a traveler from an antique land
Who said: — Two vast and trunkless legs of stone stand in the desert. Near them on the sand, half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown and wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command tell that its sculptor well those passions read
which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things, the hand that mocked them and the heart that fed.
And on the pedestal these words appear:
“My name is Ozymandias, king of kings: Look on my works, you mighty, and despair!”
Nothing beside remains: round the decay
of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare, the lone and level sands stretch far away.
A very sad fate for a very sad nation!

If you really do not want to vote because it appears to the little guy as not mattering, do this; go out, find a big stick, find a cop, find his car, make sure he is watching, and smash the crap out of his wind shield! After they convict you of a felony there will be no voting, so it won’t matter one way or another!
Also, why are felons not allowed to vote? They are still citizens(possibly), they still have voices(more than likely), they pay taxes(some of them), they are a part of society(once prison is out of the way), SO what, they do not deserve to participate in the democratic process? If voting is a right, then ‘everyone’ should be allowed to vote! No matter what! Felonies should not disqualify a person from participating in society. At least after they serve their time. To assume felons have no brains, always make bad decisions, and will only vote for a person that will let them continue to commit crimes, is simply put, ludicrous.
Anyways, felons cannot vote, yet non-felons can vote for crooks that run for office??! I find that too be quite a contradiction!

And NO, flurk, criminals are not a part of society. If I had my way there would be no prisons. All criminals would be eliminated on sight, with extreme prejudice. As would lawyers and politicians. I want military-state totalitarianism. Bring back the ways of the Gestapo and the SS, without the master-race ideals and the racism. But that’ll never work, will it? Guess the only thing left to do is kill off all humans, because we have failed miserably at governing ourselves.
I don’t know about you guys, but I’m very nervous and worried about the next presidency. I pray everyday that we will not be attacked again. It was so painful during that time, especially since I live in New York City. I hope our next president can somehow prevent terrorist attacks.
