Europe on the Move

How has Europe changed in recent years? What can we learn from history for Europe today – and what should Europe be like tomorrow? Here are some essays, interviews and debates about current European opportunities and challenges.

“Freiraum” is a project of the Goethe-Instituts in Europe in cooperation with 53 actors from culture, science and civil society. Around 40 European cities will explore the issue: What is freedom in Europe today? Where is it endangered? How do we strengthen it?

Tell me about Europe

Experiences of war, oppression and flight in Europe: In the project “Tell me about Europe” contemporary witnesses, born before 1945, tell about their lives and – and reflect critically on their history against the background of the European idea.

The project “Tell me about Europe” is based on the “European Archive of Voices” of the group “Arbeit an Europa”. Upon completion, the archive will include a number of interviews with European contemporary witnesses, born before 1945.

Our projects during the German EU Council Presidency

Germany will take on the European Council Presidency from 1 July to 31 December. During this period, the Goethe-Institut will be organising projects throughout Europe: in an artistic and discursive way, we will work with our partners to strengthen the common European public sphere, promote digital civil society and promote ecological cultural change.

What do you want from the EU?

Hey EU, here’s what I want! Goethe-Institut/3PC

Hey EU, here’s what I want!

In May, Europeans will elect a new EU Parliament. A good reason to ask them: What does the EU mean to you? In your everyday life? What challenges is it facing? And what do you want from the EU?

Together rather than alone

What does the EU bring to our daily lives? In other words, what happens when a country no longer belongs to the EU? Answers from different perspectives – illustrated by illustrators from all over Europe.
